My name is Charlotte, and I’m originally from Texas. My husband is active duty in the military. I’ve been places I never thought I’d be because of this! We’ve been happily married since 2013 and we have 4 beautiful children. God has truly blessed us in this life! We have Christian-based reasons for homeschooling. But because we are a military family, we have plenty of secular (logistical) reasons to homeschool also!

My Educational/Work Background

I always knew I wanted to be a teacher and received a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from Texas Tech University in 2013. I taught a little bit of almost everything for 14 years (but mostly secondary special education with an emphasis on math). God had other plans for me, though, and I began working from home in order to teach my own children in 2017. To be quite honest, however, The current state of schools gave us just another reason to homeschool our own children. I embraced the journey!

Home LIfe

My husband and I are working toward becoming homesteaders, to the extent possible, over the next few years. He is an avid gardener, and I enjoy cooking and canning the harvest from the garden. We believe in letting our kids play outside and getting dirty, even if it does lead to a whole lot of cleaning up at the end of the day! I can hardly think of worse things than letting a child’s brain rot by putting one in front of a TV all day.

Though they are young now, we incorporate many homesteading lessons into our homeschool curriculum. We hope that our children will one day understand the value of hard work involved with this lifestyle. One of the reasons we homeschool is because we have the flexibility to teach our children life skills, not just academic skills, at home. The goal is for our family to become less reliant on the economy and to produce what we can for our family.

Hobbies

I enjoy creating and selling educational resources for (mostly) secondary math teachers on teacherspayteachers.com. I also blog my ideas, and I continue to read the current educational research so that I can stay on top of the most intriguing topics. I will summarize the ones I find most interesting here in case you would like to take a look.

Additionally, I like to upcycle almost anything I can (see my wreath made from old magazines)! Yes, my husband rolls his eyes at this sometimes. But he doesn’t see the aesthetic beauty in old magazines, empty cereal boxes, used tin cans, or old glass jars like I do. I also have a Cricut that I enjoy using. Another one of the reasons we homeschool is because we can actually incorporate art into our lessons!

A few more facts about me:

  • I am a twin and have a set of twin boys myself! Everyone always told me that twins skip a generation, but I guess they were wrong!
  • I love my husband more than probably should be allowed. He’s from the North, I’m from the South. We met on match.com….living proof that it works right here, ya’ll!
  • After waiting tables to support myself through college, I believe everyone should work this job at least once in their lives. They would have a new appreciation for waitstaff and the restaurant industry itself.
  • Classical music is my go-to!

Anyway, thanks for visiting my web site! I hope you find some useful information and plenty of more reasons to homeschool your children. We are in this journey together!
